WHAT? A run in and around the Capilano Canyon followed by a descent of the Capilano River from Cleveland Dam to the Pacific.
WHEN? Tuesday 1 July 2008 (Canada Day) - 10:00 am
WHY? It's Canada Day... spend a couple of hours with friends to appreciate the fabulous outdoors. Discover Capilano Canyon from a different perspective now that the river isn't rushing as much as it usually is. Note: Try to wear something with a red maple leaf on it!
WHERE? Capilano Fish Hatchery, North Vancouver, BC
From downtown Vancouver, take North Van exit off Lions Gate Bridge then Capilano Road about 2km. Turn left at sign indicating Capilano Regional Park. Park at the last parking lot before the fish hatchery. Meet at the gazebo opposite the hatchery entrance.
From Second Narrows Bridge, take #1 west to Capilano Road exit, then about 1k north to park entrance (as above.)
Dho! If you reach Montroyal Blvd and Cleveland Dam parking lot, you've gone too far.
INFORMATION? This is a very losely organized event in celebration of Canada Day. Join me for the trail run (about 1 hour on nice trails), the river run (no clue, never done it) or both.
You will need your own boat (river kayak, canoe, raft, etc.), life jacket, helmet, paddles as well as your running gear and a change of clothes. Worried about freezing your fat ass if you get dunked in the river? Bring a wetsuit. If you're an experienced whitewater kayaker who knows the Cap River and you join us, I will buy you a beer!
Best to contact Ean Jackson at 604-904-6554 to discuss logistics if you're interested in doing the river run.
Entry: There is no fee and you don't need to be a member of Club Fat
Ass to participate in a Flash event, however whining is not allowed.
You are responsible for your own well being and
safety and should be self sufficient. Please read the Release of All
Claims. By participating in this event you agree to the terms of the
Release of All Claims.

Seems someone was drowned yesterday in the Cap River when they fell in. According the radio, the unfortunate person may have been drunk. Just the same, comments on the radio were that the river is running high. Might be best to postpone the boat tour till another day when it's a bit more forgiving. I will bring 2 kayaks just in case...
Ryan/Ean,
I am in the same boat as Ean re the "long run" due to a calf injury...but.. have been road riding along with a few short runs, so there may be a glimpse of hope for me and KK this year (not sure and it would be a miracle at this point). Will check on the grind today and St. Georges and/or tomorrow or the first 1/2 too.
Ean do you want to give me a call and we can rationalize together:) Ryan, are all the speedsters with you tomorrow for the first half?
hope you guys are enjoying this beautiful weekend:)

Hey Laddie:
Its a pretty quick group, one is a likely winner of the race (and possible new course record I would say - it's going to be quite a men's race this year I think if all the fast guys are healthy) and the other two of us are just hoping to be able to hang on for dear life! There are just three of us though, if you would like to carpool to Nelson Canyon with us we are meeting up at Grouse at 8:00 tomorrow. My sister and her boyfriend may be coming too but they are just hiking as she is getting over a stress fracture. You could possibly carpool with us, hike up black with them and then run down on your own?
My sister gets into town tonight so I will know more then. (604)630-8541. I've got to get out for a ride and a swim today but I'll be around later.

Does this mean you're back at it you old bugger?
Doing the first half of the Knee Knacker course but maybe we'll stop by after. The plan is to carpool from the dam and then start around 8:30. Going for a beer after in case we don't catch you?
