Mutha's Nature Trail Run - Report

Sunday morning I arrived at Lynn Canyon to find nobody waiting by the Baden-Powell trailhead. I thought I had gotten off easy, having gone down to injury in the Royal Victoria 1/2 marathon the weekend before and having been barely able to walk since then. I went and parked figuring I would just go for a hike along the route with my dog Shazam when Mel, a new Club Fat Ass member from Kelowna pulled up beside me.

We discussed the route and decided not to do the full 32 km as she only had 3 hours and with my hip injury we weren't going to be moving very quickly. She did mention how she could always 'cut back' if she was running out of time but that would be somewhat difficult from the top of the Hanes Valley. It was too bad our situations did not allow us to do the whole course because the weather was perfect, clear skies but not too cold for a fall day.

Pacing Wader - The Conspiracy Theories

My friends Wade, Dom and Ryne are without a doubt among the best long distance runners in Canada.  They had trained very hard and very smart.  They were all very ready for the Western States 100-mile endurance run.  And yet all 3 failed to complete the 100-mile distance on race day.  There had to be a conspiracy!

Cold Remedies for Runners

Ean in Sick BedAfter kicking off the New Year with a 50K run in the rain and swim in the icy Pacific, I caught a bad cold.  Bummer.  ( I guess it's OK to use that word on the Club Fat Ass website, eh?)Undecided

For almost a week, all I felt like doing was crawling a corner and being alone and miserable.   My Mom said I should take Cold FX.  My wife handed me multi vitamins.   My Grandma would have said don't do stupid stuff like run in the cold and rain and swim in the frozen ocean afterwards.   Some friends say, "It's going around", as if it is 100% certain that everyone is going to get the same cold.  Others say, "The kids drag home everything" as in you have kids, therefore colds are inevitable.  While still others informed me that they'd not had a cold in 10 years!
